Bomrani is an Iranian alternative band that grew from singer and guitarist Behzad Omrani’s solo work in the late 2000s. The musicians began with small café performances, then worked in theatre and developed a repertoire through playing and writing together. Their arrangements became a group effort, with different approaches to the same songs in the studio and on stage.758

Life & work
From solo work to a band
Omrani first used Bomrani as his solo name and recorded Yellow Sky, Blue Sun in 2010. Harmonica player Mani Mozaka and electric guitarist Jahanyar Ghorbani, his cousins, joined him. Arash Omrani suggested playing in cafés, and the musicians rehearsed at his home. Arash’s brother Kiarash initially sold their tickets; he then bought a bass guitar, learned to play it and joined them. The ensemble gradually took shape through private performances and charity appearances, including at the Mahak institute.57
They played for small audiences—sometimes twenty people in a café—before working in theatre and moving to larger concert halls. In 2012, Chekeh Records commissioned them to make a children’s album. They released the result, Red Bus, in June 2014.75
In 2013, Omrani collaborated with the singer Makan Ashgvari on the video for “Baad o Otobaan”. The band began recording Common Vent in 2014, released it in May 2015 and performed it over eight nights at Azadi Concert Hall that summer.95
Writing and playing together
By Leaving and Passing By in 2017, they had more experience of playing and arranging together. Mani Mozaka said that working with a producer and holding more meetings led them to spend more time on the music. Omrani felt less need to sing and play at full force after Common Vent.8
Their songs often began with one member’s unfinished idea. The others discussed it around a whiteboard, revised the words and developed the arrangement by playing together. Kiarash described a process in which no single person was the arranger. They rehearsed as an ensemble before going into the studio, but kept the recorded arrangements sparser than the concert versions.87
“Pepperoni” began with Arash Omrani’s words and performance concept, which the group developed together. He had initially doubted whether so many wind instruments would work. “Mom” grew from an idea by Behzad and Kiarash: after writing and discarding versions with the band, Kiarash made a new sketch, played the guitar and Behzad sang.7
During the concert shutdown
Bomrani had planned four concerts for March 2020, but cancelled them after the coronavirus outbreak. With the six members staying apart, they streamed a recording of their 2019 concert at Sa’dabad Palace on Instagram and talked with listeners through the chat. At the time, Omrani said their forthcoming Probably There Is No Hero was about what they had experienced over the previous year, personally and as a country.10
They continued releasing music, including Shayad Behtarin Roozam Gozashteh in August 2025.11

After working as a solo artist (using “Bomrani” as his stage name) and recording Yellow Sky, Blue Sun in 2010, Mani Mozaka (harmonica and trumpet) and Jahanyar Ghorbani (electric guitar) joined him. The Bomrani trio gave several experimental performances in smaller venues before Arash Omrani (keyboards), Kiarash Omrani (bass) and Abtin Yaghmaeian (drums) joined them. The songs they wrote before 2011 were collected in an album called Naked Socks. After performing in various charity shows in 2012, they gradually started to gain momentum and were recognized by various cultural circles, which led to several collaborations with reputable Iranian theater directors. They were cherished as the most hard-working band in theater music in 2012 by the public relations of the prestigious City Theater of Tehran. In 2012, they were commissioned by Chekeh Records to make a children’s album. The favorite Red Bus was the result, released on June 2014.

Alternative band Bomrani, whose sound combines influences from traditional Iranian music, jazz, and gypsy punk, had planned to give four concerts in March—all canceled due to the outbreak. The band decided to experiment with an online concert
With Bomrani’s six members social distancing, they decided to release a recording of a concert performed last year on the grounds of Sa’dabad Palace. They used Instagram to stream the concert. The platform’s chat function allowed the band to connect with fans during the stream.
Despite this, Bomrani do not shy away from difficult topics in their music. “We’ve got an album in the pipeline, ‘Probably There Is No Hero’. It’s about all we have been through over the past year both personally and as a country,” he said.
